‘For in the day of trouble He will keep me safe in His dwelling; He will hide me in the shelter of His tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.’
Psalm 27:5 (NIV)—
Our verse this month, talks about God hiding us, hiding us in a secret place, hiding us in his tabernacle. We must say, God is not going to hide us from our situations. He will not remove the situation — but — will be there to protect and care for us during this time if we put our trust in Him.
The best example of this, being hidden away in God, that I can think of, would be that of a mother hen, who would raise herself up and allow her chicks to go beneath her, and then settle back down so that the chicks are still in the situation, but protected. Another example might be a kangaroo, who hides her little one in her pouch, again still in the situation but being protected. It is a Christian’s confidence and faith in God’s protection that enables him/her to feel assured in a troubled situation.
You know the curious thing about being a Christian, is that we believe in eternity, that is, that after this life we will continue to live with God in heaven. One of my favourite sayings is “you cannot kill a Christian, you can only transfer him/her.” What is to say that the worst thing we can expect in this life is death. But if you believe in eternal life, then even death itself is not a fear.
It also says in this Scripture “he shall set me high upon a rock.” Does this mean God will expose us by allowing us to be plainly visible to our situation? No, it means that we can rest and rely on Him. God himself will protect us, and give us strength and then understanding, in many cases, of the trouble or situation we are going through. We all know that in every case, the result of our actions will result in consequences. We must take responsibility for our choices whether good or bad, but we know ultimately, as Christians, that God is with us.
There is a wonderful poem entitled Footprints in the Sand. This speaks of a man walking, and by the footprint impressions left behind, he notices that in some places there are two sets of footprints, and some places there are one. This shows how God walks with us and even carries us through those difficult times.
What about you, do you have someone with you, who can carry you through those problem areas of your life, or do you go it alone? Personally I am so glad that I know God, and I can trust him to be with me through good times and in bad.

Footsteps
One night a man had a dream. He dreamed
he was walking along the beach with the LORD.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene he noticed two sets of
footprints in the sand: one belonging
to him, and the other to the LORD.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of
his life there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened at the very
lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and he
questioned the LORD about it:
“LORD, you said that once I decided to follow
you, you’d walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life,
there is only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why when
I needed you most you would leave me.”
The LORD replied:
“My son, my precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you.”
