‘But I cry to you for help, O Lord; in the morning my prayer comes before you.’

Psalm 88:13 (NIV)

Desperate. That is what this man is, desperate for God. He is desperate to know God close. He is desperate for His help and yet God seems very far away.

Are you desperate for God?

He is the exact opposite to the comic figure Desperate Dan. Famed for being the world’s strongest man, able even, to life a cow with one hand, self sufficient and in need of nobody.

Well the person who wrote this verse and the psalm didn’t feel like Desperate Dan, but he did feel desperate.

He felt desperate because he knew that he was in a situation that he by himself couldn’t get out of.

He says in verse 3 of the psalm that “my soul is full of troubles, And my life draws near to the grave.”

He felt that he was close to death and he is crying out to God.

How will you respond when you are close to death?

You’ve not given God much of your life before, but now as you near the moment when you’ll meet Him, you can’t stop your thoughts turning to Him.

What will He say to you? What will He think of your life?

Winston Churchill once said: “I am prepared to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter.”

Well it won’t be like that. Are you ready to meet your Maker? Have you called out to Him?
