God is our help

‘So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.’
Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)—
In the message for November 2011’s verse it was mentioned that in 2005 a poll was conducted in America asking people what they feared the most. It was found that the top ten fears were: (1) Terrorist attacks (2) Spiders (3) Death (4) Being a failure (5) War (6) Heights (7) Gang violence (8) Being alone (9) The future and (10) nuclear war.
Perhaps you can identify with those fears. Well in the verse for this month we find the same word that we thought about in November. Fear.
Yet here, instead of being told to fear, we are being told not to fear.
Are you ever afraid? Afraid of some of the things in that list?
What we often need when we are afraid is to have someone who is there for us. Who helps us through it. Who comforts and strengthens us. A close friend. A member of the family.
Yet some times there are certain things and certain situations that however much people want to, they can’t help us through it. Their help, through no fault of their own is inadequate.
For a Christian, someone who has a relationship with God, who knows Him and is loved by Him, that is never the case. Because they always have Someone who is there. Whose help is always adequate and whose strength is always a great comfort. Even when walking the pathway of death. That Someone is of course God. And He says to those who love Him:
Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
Do you know Him?
