‘Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.’ Hebrews 4:13 (NIV)*—
Welcome to 2011, and a Happy New Year to you all. You’ve come to this page (hopefully) because you want to know more about what this verse is trying to tell us.
We have to admit, it’s a pretty awesome thought, that God can see, and knows about all things, this is beyond our comprehension. But just because we don’t understand fully, doesn’t mean it’s not true. Let’s consider, in John 1 verse 3 the Bible says “He created everything that is. Nothing exists that He did not make.” So if God made all things and is in all things, then surely He can see all things and nothing is hidden from His sight.
In the Bible it says “My thoughts are completely different from yours. And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55 verses 8 and 9). So the idea that we can understand all things about him [is pretty silly] wouldn’t really make sense. We know also that if we had physical proof of Jesus’ life here on earth, if we had a video of some of his ministry, in fact total proof that all this was true, then we would not need faith. The Bible “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe” John 20 verse 29.
Now I don’t know about you, but the fact that everything will be uncovered, and laid bare before God, and that we will have to give an account, is pretty scary. I’m sure if our life was recorded and shown upon a screen, in a local church, or in a shopping centre, or even worse on national TV, we would hide our faces forever.
But the great news is that God sent Jesus to this earth, as a real man, and that when he died on the cross at Calvary, he paid the price for our wrongdoings. It is like being in court, and the judge pronounces us guilty. The judge then names our sentence, let’s say £5000. But then he takes off his wig, he writes out a cheque for £5000, and then comes down to us in the dock, and says ‘the prices paid in full you may go’. Does this mean then, we can go on doing wrong, that is, sinning? No, it just means that when we get it wrong, we can repent (say sorry) turn away from the sin, and knows that we are forgiven.

* Some people may have had the calendar with the verse from the New King James Version, which differs from the verse explained above, but has the same thought that God has created all things, and overlooks all that which He has created.
